Julia Rich: A Computer For College
Julia Rich had a problem. In her senior year at Gaither High school, she recognized that her computer skills would have to be upgraded before attending college. Also, she knew that continuing to share a computer with her mother would not be practical in the future.
In December 2008, Julia read a newspaper article on the CMG mission and the 2008 Tech Bowl. Julia immediately enrolled in the CMG Teen program and began attending sessions in January, 2009. She diligently applied herself to the interactive lessons for the entire two hour period every week. Her goal was to receive her IC3 Certification by June, 2009. A free desktop computer accompanies this certification.
CMG is delighted to report that Julia has received her high school diploma and IC3 Certification this month. She will attend Hillsborough Community College where she will already have one college credit as a result of earning her IC3 Certification. Julia’s career goal is to be involved in some aspect of music. She is now considering a Computer Science minor
CMG has been impressed with her self-motivation in our short involvement with her. We wish her luck in all future endeavors.
From The Director
Hello again Everyone; Well it’s finally summer, which is the busiest time around here at CMG. I have to give much thanks to John Corsell, our Program Director, who coordinates all the programming at CMG. He and staff successfully launch the summer programming which will raise the number of students being simultaneously to 180 this last week. And all has been accomplished without a hitch. Much thanks to John and staff.
With all that new programming comes a need for additional computer equipment. We currently are finding ourselves in a severe shortage on computer monitors. We would normally only be looking for 17” CRT’s and any sized flat panel, but right now, if quantities exist, we’d consider other sized units. Other than that, we are also seeking Pentium 4 or better computers, keyboards, mice, and CD ROM drives as donations. By the way, all the equipment that is donated must be in working condition, or at least able to be brought into working condition to be usable by us.
Lastly, we’ve just kicked off the recruitment for Tech Bowl sponsors. Raymond James, and Connectwise are definitely coming back this year and we have an ad that will start running through Bright House Networks very soon. We’ll be in contact with the rest of last year’s sponsors shortly but there is still room for a few additional teams. Contact Ernie Webb or myself here at the CMG office (813-236-1191)
Sincerely,

Thank You
Thank You to Seminole Electric Cooperative of Tampa and Florida State Senator Jeff Atwater for Contributions.
To all who have donated in the past, and to those who may consider doing so in the future, Computer Mentors Group, Inc. wants you to know how valuable your contributions are
CMG recognizes that, today, computer ownership is essential for continuing personal intellectual and social development, and that is why a hallmark of CMG's programs is to distribute computers to as many of our students as possible.
CMG is as successful as we are in fulfilling this part of our mission due mostly to the generosity of companies and agencies seeking to replace or update their equipment.
When older, but still useful computers are donated to CMG, they are cycled through our programs, used as part of the classroom learning experience, and then upon successful completion of courses, they are awarded to students, where they find new homes and new lives. Often they are used in the home by several family members seeking to connect with channels of success beyond their front doors.
This month we especially thank Seminole Electric Cooperative, Inc (Tampa) and their Manager of Public Relations & Training, Michele A. Collet-Kriz and Florida State Senator, Jeff Atwater, for recent, substantial donations of computers. Your gifts are greatly appreciated by all involved participants at Computer Mentors Group, Inc.
