Ayele Gigson: Computers Are In His Future
Computer Mentors Group would like to congratulate Ayele Gibson. He has completed all three sections of the entire IC3 course in a bit over 3 months. He began with CMG in February this year & has already received his certificate for satisfactorily completing the course.
Ayele currently is in his freshman year at
Middleton High School. He is majoring in Computer
Systems Technology. He plans to attend college, seeking a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science & a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Ayele should be well equipped to succeed in today’s business world. His successful completion of the IC3 course gives him one college credit toward his goals. His exciting college venture has already begun.

Ayele Gibson
- Acheived IC3 Certification
The hobbies he pursues are varied; Basketball, Facebook, Music, Hip Hop RNB, Music Production, and, yes, Computers. These hobbies should provide much stimulation for him.
He likes his experiences at CMG. He has learned many different aspects of computer use and troubleshooting. He successfully built the computer he was awarded for the IC3 course completion, and will soon begin building additional computers for the many other programs CMG offers.
When asked why he has chosen the technology field, he said that he has developed a passion for this technology and the many different applications for computers and related equipment.
Ayele does offer advice to
others; “Take advantage of any opportunity that can benefit
you in a positive way.” This is good advice for
everyone, and it appears, with this advice, Ayele has quite a good start to the rest of his life. Congratulations Ayele!!!
CMG Teens Seek Internships
Each summer Computer Mentors seeks to
provide real world employment experience to a group of our
teens. To do so we reach out to local companies that may have a need for teens with basic technology skills. Though we also hope that the youth will be productive for their internship employer, the program is also an attempt to provide additional training to these youth who will be seeking IT professional careers in the future.
This year three of our youth interviewed at
Raymond James Financial. Raymond James has a large IT
Department facility in St. Petersburg and has been operating an
internship program for a number of years that provides opportunities
for both high school and college interns.
Tyree Anderson, Rodney Calton, Gordon Kratz, and Debbie Williams of Raymond James
The three candidates that were interviewed
were Gordon Kratz, Rodney Calton, and Tyree Anderson. All
three have distinguished themselves at CMG by achieving their
Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3). IC3 provides
students and job-seekers with the foundation of knowledge they need
to succeed in environments that require the use of computers and the
Internet. It is now a global standard and is internationally
recognized as a standard for digital literacy and reflects the most
relevant skills needed in today's academic and business
environments. We also like IC3 because it also provides the
students with a college credit that can be transferred to the
college or university of their choice.
We thank Raymond James and
other potential employers for their assistance in providing these students
with such a great opportunity.
2nd Annual Golf Charity Mentoring Event
When community partnerships work together, they unite to help to build healthier families, stronger communities and resilient kids. The community partnership of Computer Mentors Group, Inc. (CMG) and Rogers Park Golf Club have joined forces to make a difference in the lives of many disadvantaged youth who need our help for a brighter future one child, one computer, one step at a time!
This unique partnership is most proud of their combined history over many decades of contributing to the betterment of our neighborhoods, both through service and community outreach, which has played a pivotal role in improving the quality of life for youth of all ages from adolescent to the young at heart.
The Computer Mentors Group Inc, is pleased to announce that it will host its 2nd Annual Charity Golf Mentoring Event on Saturday July 17, 2010 at Tampa’s historic Rogers Park Golf Club, located at 7911 N. 30th Street, Tampa, 33610. The event kicks off at 8am and will be followed by a silent auction and awards luncheon. Proceeds will go to support the Computer Mentors Youth programs which include the Youth Computer Certification & Ownership Program and the Middle-School Pre-Certification Program. Youth from the program will be present to greet and welcome the participants.

CMG, Inc. and Rogers Park Golf Club is
helping to build a dynamic community, one partnership at a
time! Grab your neighbors, coworkers, family, and friends and
come out and show support for this outstanding organization now in
its 13th year of serving our youth, local families and the
community. We’ll have a great selection of silent auction and raffle
prizes including a computer!
Rogers Park Golf Club, (www.rogersparkgc.com) built
in 1952, has evolved as one of Tampa Florida's best kept secrets. This beautiful 18 hole
160 acre golf facility is steeped in history and rich in the heritage of Tampa, Florida surrounded on three sides by the Hillsborough River, which offers isolation from homes and the hustle and bustle of busy streets. Renovated in the summer of 2000, with an addition of a new maintenance compound in 2001 and a new clubhouse built in 2002, Rogers Park Golf Course is the home of the Tampa City Amateur Medal Championship and features one of Tampa's finest driving ranges. In addition, the three hole short game course offers an experience unique to this area.
We hope as you get to know more about CMG, Inc. and Rogers Park’s commitment to the community, you will become inspired to get involved and help us further strengthen our efforts to improve the quality of life for those in need. As Gandhi once said, "we must be the change we wish to see in the world," and we are making strides everyday to do just that.

Hello Again All,
I want to take this opportunity to thank a
couple of our sponsors. We have some exciting opportunities
for youth this summer and are pleased to say that we are continuing
to expand. And this is only possible with the help of our many
many wonderful sponsors that provide us the support that we need to
continue our programs.
And one of those sponsors is new to us this
year, but is doing some great work in the community. That is
the Rays Baseball Foundation. A couple of weeks ago we
attended a luncheon where the Rays Foundation invited 15 groups just
like ours to receive $75,000 in donations. The Rays are really
winners, not just on the field (where they’re showing they’re the
best team in baseball), but also in the community. They are
showing that they take seriously their mission of supporting youth
and education programs throughout the Tampa Bay region. In 2009, the
Rays Baseball Foundation proudly invested more than $600,000 in
youth and education programs in the Tampa Bay area through grant
programs and community outreach initiatives. We will use our
portion of the $75,000 for our Youth Programs.
Organization representatives at Rays luncheon Also another supporter
that I’d like to highlight in this issue is Citi. Citi
recently provided another very timely grant to assist us with our
youth programs that include our Teen Certification & Ownership
Program and our Middle School Pre-Certification Program. Citi
made it five (5) years in a row of continued support. In the
past Citi has sponsored Technology Bowl teams, provided grant
matching support, and is always one of the first to come through
with volunteer and other support. For instance, there is
current consideration being given right now as to whether they too
would be able to hire a summer youth intern, a step that helps us
provide real world training opportunities to our youth. We
love our relationship that we have with Citi, as of course we do
with all our sponsors, but this one is also special to me because I
am a former long time employee of Citi.
One final note, CMG has an abundance of
computers and will be making those available to and through other non-profit organizations starting next month.
There will be only a small cost associated and we’re also
happy to report that some of these computers
are being refurbished by our students. Non-profits that are interested should contact
John Corsell or Ralph Smith at our number listed below.
Thank you and regards,
