Rogers Park Golf Course, build in 1952, has evolved as one of Tampa Florida's best kept secrets. This beautiful 18 hole golf facility is steeped in history and rich in the heritage of Tampa, Florida. Renovated in the summer of 2000, this 18 hole layout offers a serene adventure and a great golfing experience for golfers of all skill levels.

During the days of segregation Rogers Park was the only picnic area for the African American community in Tampa. The park took the name of its contributor, G.D. Rogers. After church on Sundays many families came to enjoy the swings, slides, baseball diamond, and picnic area. Mayor Curtis Hixon gave permission to a group of caddies from Palma Ceia to build a nine hole golf course. The first Head Golf Professional, Willie Black directed his group of volunteers. All of the tree removal and shaping was done by hand. Upon its completion in 1952 the Rogers Park Golf Club was born.

Computer Mentors Group, Inc. (www.computermentors.org) is a “digital divide” non-profit organization comprised of computer professionals, and others interested in the future job opportunities of disadvantaged youths.  The group’s flagship program is called the Youth Computer Certification & Ownership Program.  Youths in the program build a computer to take home and have the opportunity of earning a college credit by completing the 6-month course and passing the certification test.  The group also provides scholarships, and has a summer internship job program for the youth that have achieved certification.
